SAFETY TIPS Baby Proofing essentials - safety locks for doors, drawers, outlets, ovens, sharp edges, Cribs and Beds - Make sure the crib conforms to current safety standards. Safety first when using the change table: NEVER leave your baby unattended on the table, be sure to have everything you need for the change within arm's reach - waterproof pads, clean diapers, dirty-diaper bin, wipes or water, diaper creams, clean clothes. Use a monitor to listen to the baby when you're away from the room. Remove crib mobiles when baby is able to push up onto hands and knees. Keep infants bed free of long ribbons, cords, hanging toys that the baby might reach. Keep crib and playpen away from windows so your child cannot yank on curtains, break glass or climb out of the window. Dont put climable objects under windows. Install window locks that allow partial opening, so a small child cannot fall out. Keep drapery shade and blind cords out of reach of young children When your child leaves the crib for a bed, attach a low guard rail if the sleeping surface is more than a foot off the floor. Keep lamp cord out of reach so baby cannot chew on them. Eliminate extension cords whenever possible. When baby begins to crawl cover unused outlets with safety caps. Remove small objects that could find their way into baby's mouth. Also avoid decorating a toddler's room with accessories small enough to be swallowed. Anchor tall or unstable furniture to the wall. Make sure a lidded toy chest has safety hinges to prevent the lid slamming shut |
An infant needs only a safe place to sleep and to be changed. First few months of your baby's life will be spent in a bassinet, cradle or crib. Plan to provide convenient storage for diapers, toiletries and clothing and a comfortable chair where you can feed and cuddle your baby. You'll also want to have an overhead light on a dimmer, nightlight and a window covering that allows the room to be darkened. Once you take care of the basics, you can decorate the room however you please. Set a peaceful, casual tone with a warm wooden crib, changing table and rocking chair or establish a cheerful, contemporary look with furnishings decked out in bold hues. Add refreshing splashes of color with co-ordinated bedding, curtains, and wall color, or give the nursery a whimsical touch with a fanciful mural beside the baby's crib. There's no reason to limit your baby's room to something overly boyish or girlish. Many color schemes work for either a boy or girl: yellow-green, bold primaries and neutrals: earth tones and whites. And there are so many gender-neutral decorating themes to choose from such as Noahs Ark, Teddy Bears, Jungle animals, Superheroes, Underwater sealife, Alphabet and Numbers, to name just a few Get creative with painting techniques. If you are not too confident with your artistic ability, there are wall murals, wall decal stickers and wall stencils that come in a variety of themes to make decorating easy. Decorate babys bedrooms with fun ceiling hangings, Toy Hammocks, cuddly plush animals or life sized plush animals, wall hangings, wall art. |
